Urgent Prayer Requests

9-2-10

Hi.  I just heard from my sister-in-law and spoke to my brother, Bill.  Please pray for him.  He went to 2 different doctors and they both said the same thing.  He has severe COPD, and only 40% of his lungs function.  He needs a new  biventricular pacemaker (defibulator / pacemaker) with another wire added to the top part of his heart.  His heart is not a healthy one so that adds to the problem.  He is depressed and is not making good choices right now.  He is also on a c-pap machine with oxygen to help him sleep.  And he is still battling the water retention due to his kidney's not functioning to well.  I know God is in control but I am really having a hard time understanding His will in all this.  Please continue praying for us all.

Thanks and God Bless you for lifting (holding) us up with your prayers.

Please put Paul on the Tres Dias prayer chain.  Yesterday he was to have had surgery for his hip which he broke at the hospital three weeks ago, but could not for the second time because of a fluid build up in his lungs and around his heart.  This morning he was put on a morphine drip and is being moved to ICU so that his condition can be monitored more closely.  Please pray that God places His healing hands on Paul so that he may become well enough to have the hip surgery.  We also pray that God will be with Paul in his recovery so that it continues as smoothly as possible.

 Love in Christ,

My sister called me in Florida to tell me my brother Bobby passed away in Pennsylvania.  My other brother Bill was in the hospital with fliud leaking out of his legs.  The doctors sent him home because he was so upset they thought it would be better for him to be with his family, but he is still not doing well and he also has a very sick heart.  Please keep my family in your prayers. Thank you and God bless you all for the prayers .

Last Wed, mom fell in a supermarket hitting her head quite hard and setting off some internal bleeding.  The blood immediately began to pool between the brain and skull causing a great deal of pressure on her brain. She was given immediate surgery which relieved the pressure by removing a section of the skull.  She is currntly recoviring from this surgery.  Her involuntary brain functions--breathing, heart, etc appear to be unaffected, thank God.  Any further damage will not be known until she regains consciousness on her own. This could take a few more weeks.  She is showing smaller signs of improvement, body and facial movements. For now, we are waiting and praying.  In any case, the doctors predict a long road for rehab and full recovery after which the skull segment will be replaced.

Thanks for your prayer and concern

Stephan Magnifico

CELEBRATION

Dear Community,

It is with great joy that I am able to share with you that Joanne Albanese (Weekend #40, Rectrix #59) has officially become a Commissioned Pastor for the Classis of Nassau-Suffolk of the Reformed Church in America . Pastor Joanne is authorized to preach the Word, celebrate the sacraments, visit members of the Classis congregations especially during crisis, conduct training events open to the entire classis, and serve as the contact person between the Classis and the RCA Office of Women’s Ministry.

Joanne attended and completed the classis required coursework at New Brunswick Theological Seminary, NJ where she earned her Certificate of Ministry. In addition to her Masters in Education, and a second Masters in Social Work, (where she is licensed and certified by the State of New York), Joanne is also trained and commissioned as a Stephen Minister. She is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors with membership in the following sub-divisions: Biblical Counseling and Spiritual Formation, Christian Coaching Alliance , and Extraordinary Women.

Joanne has attended many leadership conferences and seminars including a seminar on Grief Counseling led by H. Norman Wright. She has participated in the Billy Graham Crisis Counseling-NYC after 9-11 and has attended the Celebrate Recovery Training Conference that was held in Massachusetts and has led many support groups.

In addition, let me add that Joanne is also an approved Spiritual Advisor for our Tres Dias community.

In order for Pastor Joanne to formally begin her ministry, a commissioning service took place during the June Classis meeting. However, there will be an installation service in the fall where it is hoped that you, our wonderful community, will join me and others in celebrating God’s call upon Joanne’s life. I will keep you posted but in the meantime, please join me in offering congratulations to "Pastor" Joanne for a job well done.

     De Colores, dear friend!

Joyfully announced by Cheryl Bougatsos, weekend # 59

INTERNATIONAL SECRETARIAT MEETING TO COME TO LONG ISLAND  10/21-23/2011

I am excited to announce that we at Long Island Tres Dias have a awesome opportunity to host a International Secretariat meeting that will be held on Long Island in October of 2011.  This is when the International communities come together for their committee meetings.  It is a time for our community members to meet and fellowship with people from the other communities.  This is a wonderful time for those who cannot attend the yearly International Assembly meeting.

This event takes a year to plan.  As you can imagine it is a major undertaking and we will need many people to help.  Around 75 people will be coming to Long Island from out of State and Country.

Robin Saliba has kindly agreed to organize this event.

We need volunteers to help in the different committees to make this event a success..

CREDO UP-DATE

Those of you who came to the Credo dinner April 17 heard a little about the first L.I. men’s weekend which was held last fall. For those of you who are not familiar with what CREDO is, very briefly it takes the Christian principles of fourth day communities (Cursillo, Kairos, Tres Dias, etc) and introduces them to those in addiction recovery  thus offering them another avenue of enhancing and strengthening their sobriety. The format of the weekend is similar to Tres Dias, but the Credo talks concentrate on healing, forgiveness, and reliance on Christ in the recovery process.

My daughter Colleen and I went to Rockford , Illinois to experience a women’s Credo weekend this past June; with the intent of starting one in NY. As with all fourth day communities, we are not for profit and self supporting. So step one is to raise some funds to make this outreach happen.

THE PROPOSED PLAN –

Men’s LI Credo Recovery #2 – November 4-7, 2010

February 2011 - BANQUET DINNER with Entertainment

                              and Silent Auction

FALL 2011 – both Men’s #3 and Women’s #1 weekends.

We are already checking into possibilities for restaurants and entertainment for the February banquet.

WHAT WE NEED:

Creative people: to help create theme baskets for silent auction, decorations, program design, seating place cards

Computer savvy people (Access)

People with access to printing

Restaurant gift certificates and sporting event tickets, and any other ideas  for the silent auction.

People to help set up and man the silent auction

People to help with publicity and reservations and seating

If you are able to help or have ideas/questions please contact
